Laggam Movie Review: Is This Family Entertainer Worth Your Time on Aha?
“Laggam,” a film with a runtime of two hours, initially released in theaters and is now available for streaming on Aha. While the movie offers some family elements that might appeal to family audiences, particularly for certain scenes, others might find its conflict points lack strength. Personally, the film felt below average. However, it is suitable for a family watch as there is no adult content.
The Story of Laggam
The basic premise revolves around the protagonist, Sainak, who works a software job in the city. Impressed by his salary and perceived “royal life,” his maternal uncle, Rajendra Prasad, decides to arrange his daughter’s marriage with Sainak. The narrative then unfolds to reveal what transpired after this decision and whether the marriage ultimately took place.
What Worked: The Plus Points
One of the biggest strengths of “Laggam” lies in its family elements. The film successfully brings back the family atmosphere that has been largely missing in many contemporary movies. Specific family scenes, such as the wedding preparations, interactions with relatives, and the inclusion of small, subtle messages, resonated well. Family audiences, who typically do not overanalyze for logic or magic, may appreciate these aspects.
The performances by the cast were also commendable. Hero Sai Ranakh, along with seasoned actors Rajendra Prasad and Rohini, delivered good performances, as did the other supporting actors. The second half of the film particularly focused on the emotional side, with the climax and pre-climax sequences working effectively. While the songs were just okay, the background score by Mahathi Sharma Garu was good, and the cinematography for this film was also well-executed.
Areas for Improvement: The Minus Points
Despite a promising start, “Laggam” gradually shifts into a slow pace, which can be a drawback. The conflict points in the narrative sometimes felt disconnected; for instance, Rajendra Prasad, who initially held the hero in high regard, is shown suddenly behaving differently, and a video recording becomes clear abruptly.
Additionally, some of the extra comedy scenes appeared to be forcefully inserted. The love story introduced in the second half, particularly the realization of love or pity, didn’t feel strong or organic. It raises questions about whether an adult character needed an external speech to arrive at such a realization. Furthermore, the film failed to accurately depict the stress associated with a software job, instead portraying it as an overly comfortable and easy profession.
Final Verdict: Is Laggam for You?
Considering its merits and demerits, “Laggam” can be given a try by family audiences, especially those looking for a watch exclusively with family.
