Gyaarah Gyaarah ZEE5 Review: An Average Watch?

“Gyaarah Gyaarah,” an 8-episode web series with an approximate runtime of five and a half hours, is currently streaming on ZEE5, also available in Telugu. While many subscribers commented, calling it a “super web series” and requesting a review, the reviewer found it to be just an “okay” web series, with an overall feeling ranging from average to okay. The reviewer suggests that “Brundha” is a much superior series in comparison.

“Gyaarah Gyaarah” – Key Details

The series is available on ZEE5 in Telugu, featuring 8 episodes and an approximate total runtime of five and a half hours.

The Storyline

The basic storyline revolves around a 15-year-old unsolved missing person and murder case of a young girl named Aditi. The plot unfolds as police officers handling this old case find themselves in challenging situations. A central element involves two police officers communicating across different years. The series explores the details that emerge from this 15-year-old case. The logic behind the walkie-talkie communication across different years, described as “transmission” and “consciousness” with watches, remained unclear to the reviewer, who found no clear explanation for it.

What Worked: The Plus Points

The series features good performances, rich camerawork, and strong production values that enhance the cinematic experience. The initial four episodes successfully connect a fictional concept with police investigation, creating tension through several police scenes and effectively showcasing the police investigation process. The climax in the final, or eighth, episode is also highlighted as a positive aspect.

What Didn’t: The Minus Points

While the script started promisingly, the reviewer found that from the fifth episode onwards, new characters were introduced, and the narrative felt stretched in an uninteresting way, losing direction. The last four episodes, particularly, lacked the engaging pace that a web series needs, sometimes being slow and at other times losing interest. The main killer is shown to be caught midway through the episodes, yet the story continues to be dragged, potentially for a second season. The presence of the psycho killer did not evoke any fear, unlike the terrifying Christopher role in Ratsasan (or Rakshasudu in Telugu). The killer’s flashback was also described as very weak and forgettable.

The reviewer questioned the logic of communicating across different time periods, especially given a supposed one-minute window at ’11:11,’ which was used for slow conversations rather than urgent information, particularly after the first two instances. The connection between Shaurya and Yuga, and the sudden shift to a kidnapping drama, felt disjointed. The jumbled screenplay, while partly acceptable, sometimes complicated things unnecessarily.

Family Friendliness & Dubbing

The series can be watched with family, as it contains no adult content. The Telugu dubbing is also noted to be good.

Overall Verdict & Rating

In conclusion, the reviewer felt that while the first four episodes and the climax were good, the rest of the series, despite careful attention, remained uninteresting. It is considered an “okay” series. The reviewer suggests Brundha as a much superior series and recommends the Korean thriller The Call, from which many Telugu films have copied, as a much better watch. The reviewer rated Gyaarah Gyaarah 2.75 out of 5 based on their personal opinion.
